This review is based on a formal complaint made to the hospital following the treatment of my fiancée during her cystoscopy procedure. The experience was extremely disappointing and, frankly, shocking. Firstly, basic medical standards were not followed. My fiancée was not offered compression socks before the procedure, despite being provided this by the same hospital during the same procedure previously. When she needed to provide a urine sample, a nurse unfolded a plastic bathroom mug and handed it to her to urinate in, rather than providing a sterile urine container. This raises serious concerns about hygiene and clinical practice. In addition, a male nurse asked whether she should simply write down that my fiancée was “not pregnant” without conducting a pregnancy test. This is a concerning approach to what should be a standard safety check before certain procedures. There were also issues with basic patient care. No food menu was provided and no food was offered after the procedure. Only after she repeatedly asked she was eventually offered a sandwich. Another troubling aspect of the experience was the behaviour of some staff members. Comments were made about my fiancée’s accent. She was asked about her nationality and where she works, and after she answered, further comments were made about her job. These questions and remarks felt unnecessary and inappropriate in a medical setting. In their response to the complaint, the hospital alleged that my fiancée had been swearing at the catering staff. However, she had RECORDINGS on her phone from before and after the cystoscopy procedure which clearly show what actually happened. The hospital also claimed that the staff member who commented on her accent was simply being “curious and friendly”. From our perspective, these remarks were inappropriate and unprofessional. After reviewing the recordings and photographs taken during the visit, we were extremely surprised that the hospital director would put such explanations in writing. The situation reflects poorly on patient care standards and staff professionalism. Overall, this was one of the most shocking healthcare experiences we have encountered. Issues included lack of proper hygiene practices, inconsistent medical procedures, poor communication, and unprofessional behaviour from staff. Patients should be aware and ensure they document their experiences, as our experience suggests that the hospital’s version of events may not always reflect what actually occurred.

It’s a bizarre thing to write a glowing review for a hospital where the extent of what I have to say should be “treated well and I’m healed now”. That being said, the level of genuine warmth and care from the staff has made the experience of being treated here a rare delight. The friendliness of the staff I’ve met is matched only by their knowledge of treatment and proficiency in their advice, making my stay them incredibly relaxed and restful. I don’t wish ill upon myself, but the experience I’ve had with the staff almost makes the need for a hospital worth it.
